The Snail That left The Shell

There once lived a little snail

in a garden by the lake. 

This little snail saw humans come and go,

and wondered with amazement

if he could ever say 'hello'

Or maybe even go with them

inside their huge shells they call cars

to the cities, the theaters and the wonderful parks.

But this dream that the little snail had,

to go afar and away to discover

seemed impossible and was driving him mad.

See, the problem was that his shell was to heavy

and to clim into the cars he had to leave it behind

but he didn't feel he was ready.

No snail ever had, as far as any snail ever knew

ever left behind its shell and started a life as new.

It was against the rules, 

It was dangerous and scary.

They said you could get eaten by a bird

or run over if you are unwary.

So the snail thought and though,

should he do it or or should he not?

Leave the shell behind,

face the fears and go against his clan.

Break the rules and his parents hearts?

One beautiful afternoon, 

a human family was having fun

in the garden that our snail called home.

And when he saw them leave, 

whitout any second thought,

he removed the shell and was gone.

He slid on the grass as fast as he could,

but the car was to quick and left way too soon.

And as sadness crept up, a wonderful bird soared down from the sky

picked him up with its beak, and flew far and away.

The snail that left the shell

because he had been brave 

traveled the world and enjoyed every day.
